ABC News- Tillie the dog is being hailed as a hero for watching over his canine best friend, Phoebe, for a whole week after the two strayed from home and Phoebe fell into a cistern, according to the dogs’ rescuer and owner. The two dogs escaped from their home in Vashon, Washington, when the front door was left ajar on Sept. 7, their owner B.J. Duft told ABC News, saying that he was hosting a company party that day and there was a lot of moving around. “Tillie would never leave even if the gate was left open, but she’s best friends with Phoebe, and so when Phoebe follows her little Basset Hound nose, Tillie always goes with her to make sure she’s OK,” Duft said. “They’re best pals — inseparable.” He added that Tille was an 11-year-old Irish Setter and Spaniel mix he’s had since she was a puppy and that Phoebe was 4 and just adopted two years ago after the two hit it off at a doggie daycare.

Another day another dog being the best living creature on the planet.  A whole week!  Day in and day out Tillie just hung out with Phoebe while she was stuck in that hole.  Waiting for help to arrive. Watching over her and making sure she was okay.  I like my best friend and all.  He’s a good dude.  We’ve been friends forever and been through a lot but I’d give it 48 hours before I bailed on him if he got stuck in a hole and couldn’t get out.  That’s the truth.  It might seem cruel but it’s mutual.  He’d bail on me too around two days.  At some point you gotta move on without them.  Hit a fist bump one last time and be on your way.  At that point the person in the hole is nothing but dead weight anyway. He’d have every right to bounce.  If he finds help, bring it back. If not, it was a good run. Therein lies the difference between humans and dogs.  You just know that leaving Phoebe’s side never even crossed Tillie’s mind.  That concept makes no sense to her. Tillie would’ve stayed there for an entire year if that’s what it took.
