The 2015 Holiday Road New York Mets Highlight Reel

My man Big Z from SUNY Oswego hooked me up with this masterpiece. What a perfect little sizzle reel for this year’s team. When Disney buys the rights to this roller coaster fairy tale this will be the movie trailer. When you’re watching the 2015 World Series Champion DVD this will be the opener. It honestly looks like a montage plucked straight from the Major League movies. Brings tears to my eyes. As if I was a shortstop that had been “traded” in the middle of a game.

And the reason I’m now so confident in all of this is because of nights like last night. Mets get blown out in a disaster of a game in which Terry Collins proves for the 5 millionth time he has no idea how to manage a bullpen and the Mets magic number still shrinks. Shout out to the Nats! Even when the Mets lose they win!

And let me just save you the time before you start spouting your lazy fucking arguments now. Yes, the Mets have FEASTED on the Rockies, Phillies and Marlins. They are 29-6 against them. Take it a step further and the Mets are 52-24 against teams under .500. .684 ball. Thats the best such record in all of baseball. And we’re gonna say thats a bad thing? Since the Wild Card era (beginning in 95 since there was no 94 postseason), the Mets .684 record against teams sub .500 is 24th best. Of the 23 other teams head of them, 11 went to the LCS. 6 went to the World Series. Beating bad teams is a GOOD THING. I cant believe the Mets are being fucking penalized for demolishing the teams they are supposed to. Its like I’m taking crazy pills when people arguing against the Mets are talking about all the games they are winning.

And no, I’m not an idiot. I understand that the implication is that the Mets record is not good against teams that are above .500. You take away those games against the Rockies, Phils and Marlins and the Mets are only 44-53. But if we’re throwing out games lets throw out the 0-13 against the Cubs and Pirates then. Why not? Lets remove outliers. If we’re just gonna ignore the Mets abnormal record against these three teams, well then I’m ignoring the 4 series with the Cubs and Pirates. Then the Mets become 44-40 against teams not named the Rockies Phils Marlins Cubs and Pirates.

Do you see how fucking stupid this game is? The Cubs are 25-10 against the Brewers Reds and Braves. Are we erasing those wins from their record? Because then they’re just 50-46. The defending champions are 3-10 vs the Cardinals and Pirates. Are we counting out the 3 time World Series champion San Francisco Giants? I’m not saying there’s nothing to be learned from the Mets based on their schedule and their opponents. I fully recognize the Mets are in a terrible division. I know they arent the best team in the game. But there’s 3 major points when you start to go down this silly road with the Mets 1) I dont fucking care. Just get into the playoffs and literally nothing before that matters. 2) Any season long records you’re going to throw around with the Mets need an asterisk reminding the world that up until the trade deadline they were a Double A squad. The 7 losses agains the Cubs that people LOVE to cite came at the peak of the Mets offensive futility. If you dont think a 7 game series with these two teams plays out differently with guys like Cespedes, Uribe and Clippard youre nuts. The Pirates sweep after the deadline is the only series that actually concerns me, and it was ONE series. and finally 3) The Mets are 2-2 vs the Blue Jays, 3-4 vs Cards, 4-3 vs Dodgers, and 3-3 vs Giants. People want to cherry pick the Cubs and Pirates and ignore their respectable performance against other playoff teams. Ignore how great their pitching staff has been all year long. Ignore how hot their offense has been since the deadline. Ignore 20-8 in August. Stick to the 4 series that fit your argument. Stick to the idea that only the Mets beat last place teams.

Take your lazy fucking arguments and hit the Holiday Road.
