Malachi Toney Will Undergo Ankle Surgery But Sould Be Back for the College Football Playoff
Well that sucks. With just 72 hours until Miami's massive showdown with Notre Dame, Heisman hopeful Malachi Toney suffered an ankle injury in practice on Wednesday and will undergo surgery to repair it. He will reportedly be back in time for the Hurricanes' likely appearance in the College Football Playoff.
It sounds like Toney will have the tightrope surgery that has become common among players in the last few years. Brock Bowers had the procedure done in 2023 and was back in four weeks.
It's remarkably unfortunate that we won't get to see Toney in the game against the Irish and potentially the ACC Championship Game, but it is good news that he should be back in time for the CFP. He's arguably the most electric player in the country and we all want to see the Canes at full strength when everything is on the line.
Just a bad break, but that's football. Cooper Barkate and the rest of that receiving corps will have to step up big-time this weekend and the rest of the regular season.
