Please Clap: Dabo Swinney Wants Everyone To Recognize Clemson As One Of The Most Consistent Teams In The Country If They Win At Least 6 Games This Year
Look, I get what he's saying here. But you're coaching at Clemson, a program you turned into a national title winner. You have been projected to be in the national title contention, even a year ago. Winning 6 games in the bad ACC doesn't mean you're some powerhouse anymore. It means you hit a low bar. Yeah, he lists other programs. Other programs (outside of Oklahoma) that are still fighting for a national title. Or at the minimum are in the conversation for winning a national title.
It's also a new era in college sports. It's one that Dabo hasn't adapted to and that's just a factual statement. There's a reason some consistent teams he listed are fighting for national titles and why some new teams are popping up each year. People are bringing in transfers, adapting to what wins and not just saying statements that the rest of the country can make fun of.
Let's also not act like 6 wins for every program are the same. Of course a team like Kentucky or Indiana or Wake Forest back in the day would be throwing parades for 6 wins. Clemson? You are expected to win 6 games well before November hits. Making a bowl game in 2026 isn't the same sort of accomplishment for someone like Clemson. Not when you have national titles and a head coach who has been there for nearly 20 years.
I'd be losing my mind if I was a Clemson fan and heard shit like this. Not when I look around the country and see a team like Georgia (listed by Dabo) constantly in the playoffs and shortlist for title favorites. Not when I'm sitting here losing by 41 to LSU and losing to Virginia Tech. You really want to celebrate having 6 wins over UNC, Syracuse, Charleston Southern, Cal, Georgia Southern and FSU? Go ahead. What a fall and another hilarious quote by Dabo. Poor Clemson, man.
