The Brewers Might Truly Be a Team of Destiny And They're Now Just Two Wins Away From Making That a Reality
Stacy Revere. Getty Images. The World Series has delivered us two fantastic baseball games so far. Sure you don't have a city like New York, Boston, LA or Chicago involved, and there aren't exactly household names scattered across either dugout, but the baseball has been great. Watching this game as a Yankees fan, the level isn't even close. They're borderline playing a different sport with their execution. So far though, Milwaukee has come away with both wins. Two razor tight, ass clenching victories.
Last night Tampa came out determined to push the envelope. Aided by a first play error from Pratt, Tampa put up a 4 spot in the top of the first as a statement. Liam Hicks' two run blast felt like it was an early knockout blow.
And to most teams it would be, but not Milwaukee. Facing one of the game's best pitchers this season in Rasmussen, the Brewers strung together three base hits in their first four at bats. It's just what they do. I don't think there's a better team at working counts and chopping down an opposing pitcher than the Milwaukee Brewers. We've seen them do it to Yamamoto and Skubal this postseason, completely neutralizing them, and last night they did it to Rasmussen, chasing him before he could finish four innings. Nobody does it better than this lineup. 1-9 they grind you down and smother you. They are relentless.
They didn't hit a ton of homers in the regular season, but when they've need a big swing in October they've always seemed to find it. Enter Sal Frelick last night.

And in a fitting way to answer for his error that started the game, the rookie Cooper Pratt came through with some good inside-out two strike hitting to give Milwaukee the lead.
The Brewers lineup isn't the only reason they're in this position. Their bullpen has been just as good if not better. Yesterday Romero, May, Hall, Uribe, and Ashby relieved Henderson and combined for six shutout innings. They allowed the bats time to find a way and stopped the bleeding from that four run first inning. It's just what they do. Some controversy came on the final out of the game with this Yandy Diaz check swing that was called a swing.
I think they got it right, but it was definitely close.
That's a swing, right?

With that the Brewers now have a 2-0 World Series lead heading to Tampa Bay. If you like baseball you've enjoyed these two games. Would be good for the dramatics if Tampa could find a way to win Game 3, but Milwaukee just feels inevitable right now. Tampa is a really good team, but Milwaukee is better. They have that team of destiny vibe to them and so far it doesn't look like they'll be denied. The Trop voodoo might have something to say about that.
