Adam Silver Is Reportedly Threatening To Give Mexico City The Expansion Team Over Seattle Unless They Up Their Offer For A New Team

For the most part, I've been on board with the majority of Adam Silver's new ideas. I like the Play In, the NBA Cup is fine, the All Star tweaks weren't a disaster etc. Outside of his obsession with tanking and the new Lottery system that won't change a goddamn thing, most of Silver's recent decisions have worked out.
When it comes to his idea of expansion, I can get behind that as well. Why not? There's enough talent in the league to support it, the chaos of an Expansion Draft would be incredible and the fine people of Seattle would finally have an NBA team again after they had to live through the Sonics being ripped from their lives nearly 20 years ago. Everyone wins.
So what does Adam Silver do? Instead of just bringing a team to Vegas and Seattle like many expect, he decides to essentially hold Seattle hostage while threatening a team in Mexico City instead?!!?!?!
Hey Adam
Giphy Images.I get it's negotiation and leverage and blah blah blah, but fuck that. Absolutely NOT. You don't get to do this to the people of Seattle. You don't get to rip their team away from them in 2008, go decades without NBA basketball in a great basketball market, then spend years pretty much hinting that Seattle is coming back to the league only then once it becomes more real switch things up at the last second and threaten to take things to Mexico City unless Seattle's bidding group ups their offer. Who cares if you can't get $12B or whatever the hell the numbers are for the Vegas team. Who cares if you can't get $11B like the Lakers just sold for. Stop being an asshole and just bring the Sonics back. I know Silver technically works for the owners, and a higher price for the expansion teams means the owners make more money, but I also don't give a shit about that. I give a shit about the Sonics being back in our lives again.
You can't spend years cockteasing an entire fanbase and city that has already been through hell just to pull a fast one at the last second over a few billion dollars. Trust me, everyone will survive if that group only pays like $5B or whatever. Nothing against Mexico City, but it's bullshit to pull the rug out from under Seattle fans like this. You got your high-ass price with the Vegas team, that should be good enough. The whole point of expansion was to bring NBA basketball back to Seattle. That's it. That's what the people want, that's what the fanbase wants, that's what the Basketball Gods want. Play some exhibition games in Mexico City like you're currently doing, that's more than enough. Hold the NBA Cup there if you want, I don't give a shit.
But if we're talking expansion teams, you either go to Seattle or you bail on it entirely. My guess is that the group will up their offer and this is all just a negotiation tactic, but even if there's a 0.000001% chance of this happening, that's too high. Don't over think it, don't be an asshole, don't be greedy, just give us the Sonics. It's really that simple
