We're A Real Soccer Country Now That Landon Donovan's Former Teammate Is Calling Him Out For Constantly 'Talking Shit' About The New Generation

Goddamn, Eddie. Now, Eddie and Landon Donovan were on the 2006 World Cup team together, played on the national team, all that stuff. Eddie was supposed to be a prodigy since he signed with the MLS when he was 17. He ended up spending some time in the Premier League and bounced around England and Greece for a little bit. All-in-all, not a bad career for a US soccer player in the early-mid 2000s.

But now we have Landon Donovan pissing him off. He pissed him off by saying his name and saying Johnson, Freddy, Santino Quaranta and Gio Reyna all failed as prodigies. Kinda bullshit for Landon Donovan to throw Eddie and Gio Reyna in there. Hell, Gio Reyna is still playing. What if he ends up being a key piece on a run for this US team? He looked pretty good in this last window of games!

I kinda love the move by Eddie here though. Don't get me wrong, Landon was one of the best players we've had. That goal against Algeria will live on forever. But, he's an asshole to this new group. He hasn't backed off from saying we can't get excited and how they need to play and all this stuff. He has every right to say on his thoughts, but Eddie Johnson has every right to fire back at him. He mentioned him. Smart by Eddie to say Landon's full name too. That's how you know it's serious. Any parent will tell you the moment you hit your kid with the middle name too, shit is not fun and games anymore.

The most dagger line though? Calling him a pussy about not staying in Europe and running back to the MLS. This lets me know we're a real soccer country now. We're fired up about Cavan Sullivan and this new era. Rightfully so, we should have hope. There's a reason people care about soccer now

We got former players fighting each other. We got formers players and current era getting into it. This is how we should be acting if we want to win at soccer. Get me to 2030 with this new era. I choose to believe they are for real.
