Uhh, No Duh: Sean McVay Blames Himself For Soft Play Calling In OT, Claims 'It's Been A While Since He's Been This Pissed After A Game'
Uhh, ya think? I mean Sean McVay has to know his special teams suck. They made the wrong hire, they don't ever seem to have a clean operation in special teams and he settled for a 48-yard field goal. I know it's the NFL and it seems like we have dudes who make 60-yarders all the time now. But it's 3rd and 5, you have Stafford. You had Puka getting roughly 72 targets last night. And with that all out there you settled for a run that went nowhere to kick the 48-yarder. I get it to a degree, a made field goal ends the game. But we know what happened.
I get in most scenarios coaches play it safe here. Don't turn the ball over, kick the field goal and get out of there. But most teams don't have a special teams mess like the Rams. They also don't have a guy like Stafford, who typically makes the smart decision. Get the first down or throw it in the dirt. Clock doesn't matter in this scenario. It's get the points and get the win.
Now, I do think the Rams are fine. They aren't this super team, they might not even be the best team in their own division. They might not even be the 2nd team in their own division. But the schedule breaks for them coming up. You just gotta figure out your special teams. There's no reason for a team like the Rams to be this bad on that side of the ball. I'd be pissed too if I was McVay. It was on him for the play call, but then shitty special teams.
