History Repeats Itself as Drake Maye Saves the Season With a 4th Quarter Comeback Victory in Buffalo
There'll be so much more to be said about this in the morning. And do not be at all surprised if you can smell the beer and cigar on my breath as you read the Knee Jerk Reactions tomorrow, once I've had the chance to both celebrate and process what we just witnessed.
But for now, I'm just going to enjoy the eerie synchronicity of this. History doesn't always repeat itself, but it rhymes.
Last October 5th, the Patriots went into Buffalo with two terrible losses on their record. Filled with mistakes and turnovers. Drake Maye seemed undependable with the ball in this hands. Unsure. Even lost at times. The whole offensive unit was prone to turnovers. Plus they were out of sync. Josh McDaniels entire approach was being called into question as people were wondering if the league had made his scheme obsolete. While the Bills were the class of the NFL. Undefeated. At the top of pretty much every power ranking. While Josh Allen seemed like a mortal lock to win the MVP again. And no one with an emotional attachment to the Patriots and a drawer full of Drake Maye Barstool merchandise [looks in mirror] was willing to go on record saying the Pats have a chance to win that game, out of fear of looking like a pure homer, utterly without shame.
And yet, that's exactly what they did. After Keon Coleman caught a 4th quarter touchdown, Maye led a scoring drive to win the game. On the road. In a place that is already considered a nightmare to play in. Against the division rival that is the obstacle in the road to success this team is going to have to keep going through if they're going to continue to compete for rings and banners, the Pats took care of their business and shocked everybody but themselves. Even missing some of their top talent on both sides of the ball.
To the rest of the NFL, you thought you'd dodged a bullet with this team and their franchise quarterback. You allowed yourself to believe 2025 was just some fluke of the schedule. An outlier that you'll never have to worry about again in the near future. Well how do you like 'em now?
Time and again in the 4th quarter, McDaniels and Mike Vrabel put the ball in Maye's throwing hand and told him to make the plays it would take the win the game. From that go-ahead TD drive to the one that sealed the deal. If they didn't believe in Maye, like all the Journo hacks were starting to suggest:
They would've kept it on the ground, tried to bleed the clock and hope for a miracle. But not these coaches. And not this franchise player. They put their faith in him and it was rewarded.
The Patriots are back on track for another Super Bowl run. Be afraid, America. Be afraid.
And all of New England, let your Pride show. The Patriots are BACK.
