Joey Votto Said the Braves Weren't Going To Score Any More Runs Seconds Before Ozzie Albies Nuked a Ball to Saturn

Joey Votto was an outstanding baseball player and I'm sure he's a wonderful person, but his attempted foray into the broadcast booth in the Braves-Phillies series was a bit off. Every time he spoke just always felt disjointed, which can be fixed with reps and was partly the fault of having a four-man booth for some reason. But the weirdest moment came in Game 3, when he declared in the fourth inning that the Braves would not score another run — something I can't recall ever hearing a broadcaster say ever, let alone that early or in a Postseason game.

Austin Riley walked on the next pitch and then Ozzie Albies came up and hit an absolute cockshot to put the Braves up 5-0 and effectively end the game. Atlanta hit another home run later, for good measure.

Even if Zack Wheeler was on top of his game and going to pitch the rest of the contest, do you really want to box yourself in with the prediction that a lineup which has owned the Phillies this season wasn't going to score the rest of the game? At least Ozzie put that to bed quickly enough to make it funny.

To Votto's credit, he seems to be taking the online heat in stride, which I can appreciate.

You do this kind of thing long enough and you're gonna have some misses. Given how it turned out, I'd like to see Votto on the Braves-Dodgers series and have him declare at the beginning of each game that Atlanta will not score.
