The Senate Just Passed A Mental Health Bill To Help Airline Pilots And Somehow It's All Thanks To Nathan Fielder's Demented Comedy Show 'The Rehearsal'

Bravo good sir, BRAVO! Truly unreal to see a silly stupid comedy show like 'The Rehearsal' actually make a legitimate difference in the world. And absolutely for the better. Who doesn't want to feel a little safer 30,000 feet up in the sky? Sidenote, if you haven't watched the airline focused S2 of that Nathan Fielder fever dream, highly recommend binging that ASAP. 

But long story short, he discovered through his morbid love of the show 'Air Diasters' that most plane crashes occurred due to poor communication between pilots. First officers rarely felt comfortable speaking up to a Captain when problems popped up, and seniority dictated that it should stay that way. Sadly lots of easily avoidable accidents go down because of it. 

Also crazy to learn airline pilots have generally never worked with each other before either. Usually don't even exchange their first pleasantries until they're sitting in the cockpit together. By the end of that S2 you really get a good glimpse into how mindfucked these pilots can end up becoming. Overworked, super stressed, and terrified of admitting any of it on an official basis out of fear they'll get grounded permanently. Slippery slope for sure. But thanks to Nathan's demented yet earnest efforts, improvements are coming!

(SOURCE) - The bipartisan bills were introduced by Republican Senator John Hoeven and Democratic Senator Tammy Duckworth. John A. Hauser Mental Health in Aviation Act aims to redress longstanding stigmas surrounding mental health among aviators via increased funding for aeromedical examiners and mental health training. It was named after the student pilot who took his own life in 2021 while training and in a letter to his family made a plea to change the aeromedical system so pilots don’t have to suffer in silence.

Meanwhile, the Aviation Medication Transparency Act seeks to provide aviators and their medical providers with clarity as to which medications can be taken and which cannot. Last August, in an interview with Deadline at the Writers Guild Foundation’s Sublime Primetime event, Fielder addressed the topic. “After the show aired, John [Goglia, former National Transportation Safety Board member] texted me and said that a bill that’s been stuck in the House for years about pilot mental health finally went through and was passed, and went to the Senate, and he was talking to the young staffers, and he said, ‘I think the show pushed them to [do it]’. I guess the young people make all the decisions. He’s like, ‘That’s how it works’. Anyway, I don’t know if it did anything, but it was nice to hear,” he said.

You love to see it. And another shining example that public shaming WORKS. Just gotta keep at it. Nice work fellas!

No word yet on what Nathan could be cooking for 'The Rehearsal' S3, but until then us Fielder Freaks will still be eating GOOD with his Elizabeth Holmes documentary next month. 

Also he apparently helped produce the Chris Hansen ‘PRIMETIME” movie too? What a goddamn talent man. Give him whatever budget he wants, WHENEVER he wants. Clearly the world will be a better place because of it. Even if it takes us on an unconventional path to get there.
