Alex Bregman Got Smoked In The Face With A Foul Ball While Waiting On Deck And The Pictures He's Posted Are Pretty Insane
Tough day for the Chicago superstars yesterday, first it was Caleb Williams being carted off with his hamstring injury and then you had Alex Bregman of the Cubs taking a foul ball directly off his face. Bregman had 0 time to react, nothing you can do when you're that close to the box and that ball comes flying back at you. Just can't get out of the. way when you're standing that close. And a lot of folks are pointing out that Bregman wasn't in the on-deck circle, I hear you there but guys have still been hit in the circle so who knows if he would have gotten out of the way. The real story is how much pain he was in and how immediately you knew it wasn't good. You could see the welt on his face pretty much right away along with some blood. Wasted no time getting down the dugout stairs and off the field because of how bad it was.
Super scary when you're watching it, you don't know if it got his eye, if it smashed his nose, you're hoping it ricocheted off his helmet or something but that clearly wasn't the case when you saw how he was acting and how quick he got out of there. Wasn't any real update after the game, Counsell said he was going to the hospital to get looked at but you didn't know if it was a broken orbital bone, stitches, just what the full story was. Then Bregman posted a picture to his Instagram and we could fully see the damage.
Nasty, cotton swab up the nose, decent cut on the face, eye swollen shut and black and blue, this is exactly how I feel when the allergies hit me once the seasons change. Just a tough break all around for Bregman and the Cubs, a nasty injury as you're headed into the playoffs, never want to see something like that. Who knows how long he'll be out, wonder if his vision will be okay once he's back and all that too.

Bregman did post this update earlier today that he's back in Chicago and my goodness….. Look at that lump! Can still see the cut but man that is brutal. Hopefully there's no broken bones or fractures and he'll be out there soon but man, you look at that face and it's hard to imagine him back anytime soon. Maybe we see playoff Bregman with a Rip Hamilton mask?
