The Chargers 2026 Season Has Ended As Quickly As It Began

Giphy Images.

Going into this season, I had half-decent hopes. I figured that, even with the loss of Minter on Defense, the addition of Mike McDaniel would shift this offense into another gear despite the roster issues. However, I did hedge that the roster composition, which is dogshit, would still prevent them from getting any real headway in the playoffs. What fucking fanciful dreaming that was to think that this team could make the playoffs.

The 2026 Los Angeles Chargers season is over. Caput. Finito. DONE. They had one chance to make some headway this year and it was all built on starting strong vs two tomato can matchups in Arizona and Las Vegas. After that, they play the stretch from hell.

With this 0-2 start, I can safely disassociate and not even worry anymore.

Allow me to quickly summarize why they are dead:

1. OC Mike McDaniel has been an all-world disappointment. To the point that I think he is a double agent here to fuck with Herbert as some sort of sick and twisted revenge. This offense fucking SUCKS. In two games, they've racked up 15 penalties, a ton of procedural errors, SEVEN FUMBLES and they are just fucking BAD overall. No receiver has any separation, the running scheme is planned around Hampton breaking 4 tackles before reaching the LOS and there hasn't been an even remotely open passing concept Hebert could look to yet. On top of that, it is making great players, like Alt and Slater, look like fucking TERRIBLE players with how poorly they fit the "timing" of the scheme.

2. DC Chris O'Leary hasn't been much better. Stepping into Minter's shoes seemed like a natural fit since he was his DB coach a couple of years ago. He is clearly, as of now, out of his depth. Like on offense, there are CONSTANT communication issues which have lead to massive, busted coverage plays in both games. It's reminiscent of defensive guru Brandon Staley's time with the team which is really saying something.

3. The Roster. Especially on offense, this team fucking blows. The interior linemen have been shit, which is saying something considering last year. It's also evident in the fact that they felt the need to do a platoon rotation at LG in week 1 and RG in week 2. And these receivers, outside of McConkey, cannot get open in this scheme. On defense, the aging star power has not been able to glue this team together. It really has been exposing how much of the unit's success last year came through the voice of the man calling the plays .

4. Injuries are back! C Biadasz knocked out in the preseason. Molden and KLS knocked out week 1 and McConkey gets a lingering injury. Njoku, Kolar, Derwin James, Dalvin Tomlinson knocked out today. It has never been more predetermined by the football gods that this team is build to fucking suck ass right from the onset.

5. Jim Harbaugh's got nothing to say about any of it other than to stare blankly at the field during the plays and go "duhhhhh I dunno" at the press conferences.

As much as I never want to say it, it's over. This entire team, including the prince that was promised in Justin Herbert, looks like absolute dogshit on a molecular level. And the fault goes squarely on 4 people's heads:

1. Joe Hortiz for taking $100m of cap space and turning it into asswater this offseason.

2. Jim Harbaugh for not preparing his team (the subordinate's failures fall under him).

3. Justin Herbert for refusing to speak up for himself.

4. The Spanos family for being cursed beyond measure.
