Nightmare in Indiana: The NBA Lottery Could Not Have Gone Worse For The Pacers, Who Just Lost Their First Round Pick
Upset about missing out on a top 4 pick from what should be a generational NBA draft class? Me? Not me, not at all.
It's Mother's Day. I'm worried about how fleeting time can be, and how you only have so long to pick up a phone and hear your Mom's voice on the other end. Maybe go make good use of your time, and spend it with the woman who gave birth to you instead of worrying about the order a bunch of plastic ping pong balls pop out of a hopper. Almost all things are bigger than sports. Basketball is just a silly little game, the Pacers will mean nothing on judgement day.
While this is is obviously the worst outcome because the Pacers don't get to have their cake from the Zubac trade and eat it too, this isn't the end of the world. I know Pacers twitter is freaking out and acting like the team will never recover from this, but that's far from the truth. Don't panic! Yes an AJ Dybantsa could have potentially extended the Pacers championship window for another decade, sure. But landing a center like Ivica Zubac filled a desperate need, and keeps the Pacers window open for another 2-3 years with this current roster. Indiana did what they had to do to land a starting caliber center who will be needed if the Pacers want to make it back to the finals.
Indiana has a plan to build out the depth on the roster and get this team back on track for next season. It's fine to be upset, and it definitely sucks, but realize the Pacers were the 5th pick so they wouldn't get a Dybantsa or Peterson, they'd be getting a Wagler or Fleming. Good players, but not franchise changers. Everyone wanted to act like the sky was falling after Myles Turner signed with the Bucks, and look how that turned out in the long run. I kept a cool head the moment that news was announced, and I was right about letting Turner go being the right move. So here I am again telling Pacer Nation to step back from the ledge, everything is going to be just fine. I promise.
