Jaguars Win The Exact Type of Sloppy Game They Needed To Against The Free-Falling Colts
Giphy Images.Before this game, I was telling my good friends Big Cat and PFT that I would like to see the Jaguars go down 10-0 and have to work hard for this win.
That's exactly what happened, and in kind of a perfect way.
The Jaguars came out looking a little flat on defense. Old Man Phillip Rivers drove the ball down on two separate drives and scored with relative ease against a defense that is usually pretty stout. The offense really did whatever they wanted to against the Colts until they got in their own way with poor play calling and execution.
They were driving the ball down the field with Trevor being like 6 for 6 on the opening drive and then Coen makes the first play call I wasn't happy about. He called a hook and ladder to Jakobi Meyers, pitching the ball to ETN.
That play should be one that Coen puts up on his big board during the week to highlight coaching errors. The play obviously worked and might have slipped ETN for a score if it was executed properly, but there's no reason to add difficulty or pizzazz when you're having your way with teams. The Jaguars are good enough to beat teams straight up without gadget bullshit in the early moments of the game. The Jaguars have increased difficulty on themselves several times this year, and they should probably stop that at some point. Now would be a good time.
I also wanted to see Trevor make a few bad plays and remain confident. He did that.
That was just straight up a bad interception right before the half when you have a chance to double dip. Lawrence had Brent Strange wide open in the middle of the field and went with Parker Washington (hard to argue because he's been an absolute menace lately), but that was a little greedy of a throw with one timeout remaining.
After coming out after the half and having one of their few 3-and-outs in recent weeks, the Jaguars' offense started bouncing back. On the third drive in the 2nd half, Trevor leads them to the end zone.
Anyway, who cares about the rest of the recap. The Jaguars won. They won a game that they played sloppy, had rough situational awareness, and turned the ball over three times in the red zone - a fumble, int, and on downs. That's rare in Duval and it's certainly been rare over the course of Trevor's career.
The Jaguars have plenty to be proud of as a result of this game. They are 12-4, which matches their 2nd-best record in franchise history.
The team has score more points than any team in Jaguars history, and now they are a win against the lowly Titans from securing a home playoff game in Liam Coen's first year as a head coach and what a first year it has been.
But he knows we aint done.
Overall, this is a special season because it was totally unexpected. I thought we might get to seven wins. The schedule wasnt easy. Theyve beaten a bunch of really good teams which has led me to feel the same way as my friend Eric Dunn.
I now except us to win one or two in the playoffs. Even if we dont, god damn watching winning is so much better than watching losing.
The Jaguars needed to win a non-perfect, close game against a division rival and that's exactly what they did and I couldnt be happier about it.
