RMFW!!!! Tulane Punches Ticket To The College Football Playoffs!
On a rainy night in Uptown New Orleans, the Tulane Green Wave shut down the super high powered North Texas Mean Green in the AAC Title Game to earn a College Football Playoff bid! BYU Transfer QB Jake Retzlaff showed up in NOLA a month before the season and somehow led the Green Wave to an 11-2 record and AAC Title. Retzlaff had 2 rushing TDs in the title game and his legs have helped carry this offense all season.
The Tulane defense was the story last night. Their front 7 dominated the Mean Green offensive line forcing 4 first half sacks, shut down their running game, forced 3 INTs and held North Texas to 21 points after they scored 30+ in every game this season.
Tulane Coach Jon Sumrall has somehow managed a whirlwind of a week damn near perfectly. Sumrall took the Florida job on Sunday, hired co-ordinators and signed a Florida Gator signing class Wednesday all while getting the Green Wave ready to win a conference title.
It does not take a rocket scientist to see why Sumrall is such a rising star in college football. This is his 3rd championship in 4 years as a head coach (2022-23 Troy Sun Belt). The 43 year old is an energetic fire ball and his players LOVE him.
Kudos to the Florida Gators for letting him coach Tulane in the AAC Title Game and in the playoffs too. At 11-2 with Power 5 wins over Duke and Northwestern, Tulane should get the #11 seed and could have a rematch at Ole Miss who rolled the Wave in late September.
Tulane has ascended to the top G5 program in America behind Willie Fritz & Sumrall. The Green Wave beat Caleb Williams and USC in a thrilling Cotton Bowl two years ago and now is heading to the playoffs.
The NIL era has been kind to Tulane as the private school might not have a huge fanbase but they do have $$$$!
