Jaylen Brown Has Heard The Hairline Jokes And Is Shaving His Head Live On His Twitch Stream Tonight
Chris Schwegler. Getty Images. With Jayson Tatum out for who knows how long, this season has required Jaylen Brown to step up and move into a new role as "The Guy". How has that gone so far? For the most part, I'd say he's holding up his end of the bargain through the first 4 games.
26.0/5.8/3.8 on 50/47% splits with 2.8 3PM a game and 4.0 TOs
The good part, has been the scoring and efficiency, especially his production from deep/midrange. Considering the good defenses he's already faced to start the year, that's encouraging. The not so good part has been that with this additional offensive responsibility, we've seen his turnovers skyrocket. That 4.0 number is by far the highest of Jaylen's career (previous was 2.9, as is his 16% TOV%. That needs to come way down for a player in Jaylen's role.
In addition to his on court play, there's also been another storyline to Jaylen's early season. He unfortunately has found himself dealing with Carlos Boozer fake hairline spray allegations given what we've now seen in games against both the Knicks and the Pistons
and sadly, the tape doesn't lie.
So what do you do when you find yourself in this position? Do you double down and deny it, or do you waive the white flag and have some fun with it? It appears Jaylen has made his choice
Now this is great for a few reasons
1. It's the right move. You don't need to use fake hairline spray Jaylen. It's OK. We all age. Just embrace it and have some fun with it
2. This could potentially have a tremendous impact on his ability to play basketball. How? See Derrick White.
What I care about is that second thing. We all remember what happened when Derrick White stopped fighting reality and went bald right? He exploded as a player. It gave him new basketball superpowers that simply did not exist when he had hair. Don't ask me to explain how this shit works, just know that there's something to it. The same shit happened with Alex Caruso once he decided it was time. We're seeing it now with Jalen Suggs.

So if you're telling me Jaylen is about to shave his head, I am already giddy with excitement in terms of what it could mean for the basketball side. Is this the key to getting his handle under control? What if this is the move that finally brings better ball security? I get this sounds insane, but remember at what this did for Derrick White. Going bald for him basically turned him into a top 25ish player. Why can't it somehow lead to better ball security for Jaylen? It doesn't have to make sense, you just have to believe.
This entire Celtics season is about experimenting. Joe Mazzulla trying different lineups. The team trying different approaches on both ends of the floor. So what better time for Jaylen to experiment in seeing if going bald gives him new superpowers? What if that's a key component to the next iteration of the roster once Tatum returns? Think of how good Jaylen already is, what if that unlocks an even higher level? That's why you have to go this route. You have to just test it out and see if it sticks like it did with DWhite. For all we know, Banner 19 may depend on it.
So I for one, am looking forward to this next version of Jaylen. If Celtics history has told us anything, there's a strong chance we're about to get the best version we've ever seen, and the last time we saw that guy, this happened
