AJ McCarron Is Running for Lieutenant Governor of Alabama, a State Which Seemingly Now Requires All Offices To Be Held by Former Collegiate Athletics Figures

Just to recap the current state of Alabama politics:

- Current U.S. Senator and former Auburn football coach Tommy Tuberville is running for governor

- ESPN college football analyst and former Birmingham radio host Paul Finebaum is considering running for the Senate seat being vacated by Tuberville

- There were rumors of recently retired Auburn basketball coach Bruce Pearl also potentially running for the same seat, though he ultimately decided against it

- Former Alabama quarterback AJ McCarron is now running for lieutenant governor

People used to jokingly say Nick Saban could become governor of Alabama at the height of his run in Tuscaloosa, but it seems he may actually be forced to run for office based on this trend of former college football figures in the state attempting to gain control of every lever of government they can get their hands on. I'm sure we'll have U.S. Representative Cadillac Williams in shot order, as well.

Who knows what will come of McCarron's candidacy for lieutenant governor, but I must say he's off to a strong start with that logo. That's gonna look great on yard signs.

I don't know what kind of upward mobility the lieutenant governor of Alabama traditionally has, but I'd imagine McCarron lives a pretty sweet life right now. He played a decade of professional football, made a good bit of money and is married to a model with young children. Just enjoy your life, brother.

Nobody has ever said they wanted to win national championships in college, play in the NFL and then get involved in Alabama state politics. You already won.
