Gets It: Mike Brown Is In Awe That He Gets To Coach At MSG All The Time Now, Took One Single Game To Win The Entire Fanbase Over
I love this soundbite from Mike Brown. I don't care about Spike Lee, but the first part, being in awe at Madison Square Garden. There's nothing and I mean nothing better than that place when the Knicks are good. It's iconic, it's made for basketball, it has big game feels simply by existing. Yeah, I'd be in awe too if I took over the Knicks, got to coach at MSG and had a team that is a favorite to make the NBA Finals.
Speaking of which. It took exactly 1 quarter for Mike Brown to win over the fanbase.
I love Thibs, think he should be remembered for the good he did for the Knicks. But, the two biggest problems was 1) the lack of ever using a bench and 2) no offensive creativity. That all changed yesterday in a game that gave the Knicks a 1-0 lead over the Cavs for a tiebreaker.
That's right. WE GOT A BENCH. Not only do we have a bench but Tyler Kolek has been unleashed. The man can read and the man can deliver passes.
I didn't know what to expect with Mike Brown. He was in a brutal spot trying to take over a team that has these sort of expectations, and, well, it's the Knicks. I've been alive for nearly 4 decades and have been happy like twice with Knicks seasons. I'm not going to overreact and say the Knicks are winning the NBA after 1 game, just that he won over the fanbase. There was a bench, there was creativity, there was pushing tempo and using Jalen Brunson off the ball instead of just 1-on-1 stuff.
So, yeah, be in awe. There's nothing better than MSG with the Knicks rolling.
