Peacemaker Season 2 Was A Huge Bummer

We've come to the end of Peacemaker season 2, a series we have waited 3-1/2 years for, and I'm really bummed out with the final product.

I am a huge fan of season 1 of this show. It took a character that nobody really gave a shit about and delivered some of the funniest and highest quality superhero TV ever made IMO. I'd put it up there vs ANYTHING live action in the genre. That includes Loki, The Boys, anything you want. So you can imagine how pumped I was to be getting this show back after this long.

Season 2 started off slow, with a ton of setup. And all we heard from James Gunn & co was how there is a huge payoff in the final few eps. Gunn even refused to give out screeners and wouldn't tell his publicist about them. So, with the promise of reward, i stuck with it. Despite the show changing tone from a comedy with a splash of drama to the exact opposite. Despite Peacemaker changing from the lovable blowhard to a whining baby. Despite Vigilante, who was a revelation in season 1, getting next to no screentime. And what was the payoff? A boring as shit finale.

There might be some broad spoilers ahead, so skip if you want.

So James Gunn teases how this finale is crazier than anything they have ever done in the series before. That was either a lie or whatever he was thinking just never materialized on screen. Because what we got was half mulitverse slop, which comic book movie audience are clearly sick of, and half rock concert montage. On top of that, there are a lot of loops left open and Gunn has said there are no plans for a season 3.

From what I can gather, most people disagree with me on the assessment on the entire season but most people seem to dislike this finale. I don't know, maybe my expectations were too high after how much I liked season 1. This season just didn't do it for me at all BUT there is a silver lining here. I think we can attribute this drop in quality to the fact that Gunn was also writing Superman at the same time. And if these smaller DC projects need to be neglected so that the mainline heroes like Superman, Batman etc can be done right, i'll take that deal.
