How About This Bears-Giants Trade Idea To Get Us Through The Week
DJ Moore is a good football player. I like DJ Moore. That was a good trade. Having said that....
The Bears need help on the defensive line. They're getting absolutely GASHED in the run game and can't get to the quarterback literally at all.
Enter...the New York Giants.
Brian Daboll NEEDS to make it work with Dart at QB and that just got a whole lot harder with Nabers going down. They need help on the perimeter. DJ Moore, who according to that ESPN analytics tweet above is still getting open at an insane clip. No idea why he isn't getting the ball in this offense. Rome has clearly become the go-to WR1 for this team. When healthy the Bears also have Loveland, Kmet, Zaccheus, and hopefully an emerging Luther Burden who could in theory step in and replace some of what DJ Moore brings to the table.
The Giants have a lot of talent on the defensive line which could make Kayvon Thibodeaux available. Putting Kayvon opposite of Sweat could free up either or both in passing situations and go a long way towards addressing the Bears biggest need on defense.
Now, I don't know how the financials would work. The Bears could pick up Thibodeaux's option next year, but then he would need an extension beyond that. Meanwhile DJ Moore is signed through 2029 (no dead cap if cut after 2028 season) carrying a cap hit of $28.5M. If the math works as straight forward as it seems the Bears would save significant money while picking up a significantly younger player.
My gut says to pull the trigger and trust you have enough weapons to help Caleb Williams continue his development. I'd also like the Bears to trade for a running back, but that is a blog for another day. I think this one makes a ton of sense and could push the Bears forwards short term and long term. Do it.
