The Bears Have Yet Another Must Win Game This Week

So on The Stretch this week, I called Monday a "must win" for the Bears. Now, I was kinda/sorta speaking tongue in cheek. Kinda/sorta not.

If I'm using my brain, which doesn't happen all that often, I know deep down the Bears don't have the roster to compete for a Super Bowl. It doesn't take some MENSA brainiac to understand that.

With that said, that means Monday is in no way a must win game because...obviously.

Before I elaborate, let's rewind it back to Ben Johnson's locker room speech after the Raiders win:

Both Johnson and seasoned vet Kevin Byard both said that was a "culture win".

As of now, I tend to agree with them. They didn't really play all that great against a pretty pathetic team and franchise, but they mucked it up and won ugly thanks to the FG block.

Most Bears fans will tell you the Bears do NOT win games like that. In fact, they lose games like that. A lot. Look no further than a year ago when the Bears lost to the team they (must) beat on Monday via a Hail Mary:

I could drop 10 other references on how the Bears consistently snatch defeat from the jaws of victory (I think I said that right?).

Giphy Images.

Not last week though. And on that note, if last week truly was a "culture win", then the Bears will beat the Commanders on the road Monday night. With it still being a young season there's still playoff jockeying to be done, but that shit is all a given.

Instead, it's a must win if you want to truly, TRULY call last week the culture change game that launches the Ben Johnson & Caleb Williams era into orbit. Here's why:

- The Bears are dog shit on MNF/primetime. Win Monday, and that boogeyman is exorcised

- The Bears are dog shit after their bye week. Win Monday, and that boogeyman is exorcised
- People say the Bears fucked up taking Williams over Daniels. Win Monday, and that boogeyman starts to slow bleed to death

My point is is that if the Bears come out and throw up a complete DUD Monday night like they typically do after byes and while in primetime slots, then their "culture win" in week 4 was nothing of the sort. It was actually just a random win against a shitty football team.

Now obviously there is a version of this game where the Bears lose and it's of the "good" quality as Big Cat said on the show, but fuck that. Sure, Caleb could completely ball out and even outplay Daniels while the defense gets torched and the Bears lose. Hopefully that doesn't happen with Edwards, Gordon, etc. coming back though, but it's definitely possible. That wouldn't be the WORST thing in the world. But it would still render the Raiders' win to "whatever" in my mind and all of the "culture" talk was just lip service.

So yeah. Fuck the "must compete" shit. Hopefully none of the players are thinking "well, as long as it's close…" because if they are they'll get their ass kicked.

I want commie blood littered across the football field 6 days from now.

Must. Win.
