The Chargers Are Dead In The Water And Justin Herbert Must Be Cryogenically Frozen For His Own Protection
We're at a bit of an early crossroads in this season.
On the one hand, the Chargers have 3 divisional wins. Fantastic. The last two games, though, they have been been put down like a sick animal and the same issues are at the root cause:
1. This offensive line is still TERRIBLE. As much as Harbaugh loved to brag that the offensive line is the tip of the spear, his unit was mediocre at full strength last year and absolutely TERRIBLE now that they've hit the injury bug. What has been really frustrating is that the problems with this line were so obvious for the world to see after the Texans game. The interior of that line imploded and the only upgrade they made in the offseason was to sign Mekhi Becton, who was constantly injured and is already missing games. Oh and they extended C Bradley Bozeman, who is now ranked 46th out of 46 qualifying centers in the NFL So, now that Slater and Alt are both out, they have absolutely nothing to offer opposing pass rushes. According to PFR, Herbert was pressured 46 times through the first 4 weeks. For reference, Josh Allen was pressured 80 times all of 2024 combined.
2. Penalties. This team is SLOPPY in 2025. They're up to 39 in four games. They had 96 all of 2024. A penalty called back the ridiculous punt return touchdown above. Penalties kept multiple commie drives alive. There was one point where Herbert converted on 2nd&18 and 2&28. BOTH were wiped out by penalties.
3. This defense does not have the talent it needs. Last year, they beat up on a lot of bad teams. Every time they faced a playoff offense, they got spanked. I think Jesse Minter is an amazing DC that has maxed out the ability of his island of misfit toys, but he needs better options. Especially at the edges.
This is why I think we need to freeze Justin Herbert. We all saw what has happened to Joe Burrow over the last few years and I just don't want to see it happen again. Put his ass in carbonite and wake him up once the season is over. Otherwise, I really think we're gonna see him suffer a gruesome injury behind this absolutely pathetic offensive line.
