Congratulations to Former NFL MVP Shaun Alexander, Who Announced That Him and His Wife Are Expecting Their 14th Child

Kay Adams makes a hot point. Shaun Alexander and his cartoonishly big family don't get nearly enough credit for being the most stupidly large family in sports. The media is always blowing Philip Rivers for his big wholesome 10 kidded family. They're always "celebrating" Antonio Cromartie for fathering 14 kids with 8 different women. Meanwhile, Shaun Alexander is flying under the radar with as many kids as Antonio Cromartie (14), and the same number of baby mamas as Philip Rivers (1). And you could argue Shaun Alexander, at least at his peak, was a better NFL player than both of them. He won an MVP. He won a Conference Championship. Philip Rivers never did those things. So moving forward, I petition that when we talk big giant sports families... move over Philip Rivers. Shaun Alexander's name should always come first in that conversation.

Even when you Google "athletes with most kids", Shaun Alexander is barely mentioned. He's not featured at the top of the screen as one of the suggest athletes.

And if you click on one of the random sports blogs that pops up on Google, Shaun Alexander is almost never on the list.

I suppose these lists for some reason seem to focus on athletes with multiple women (even though that's not at all specified in the title. But even this random list of 21 NFL players (which definitely does include families with only 2 parents), how are people missing Shaun Alexander on these?

I know these are just some random examples, but they're all from the first page of Google. You would think Shaun Alexander would be headlining every "athletes with most kids" list there is. But nope. Shaun Alexander's 13 (soon to be 14) child family is apparently breaking news to many people.

Which might kinda speak to how remarkably uninteresting Shaun Alexander is. I mean, he was undisputedly a phenomenal running back. But he is one of those great running backs who's easy to forget about. Unfortunately, a regular name and a perfectly normal & pleasant personality don't move the needle quite so much. Not like Tyreek Hill's 10 kids (one of them he allegedly hit once) with 5 different women. Or Travis Henry with his 11 kids by 10 women, and a 3-year prison sentence for trafficking cocaine.

I always have this stupid thought with an athletic specimen like Shaun Alexander: Is there a point where having __ amount of kids becomes a fiscally responsible thing to do?

I'm not sure his wife's athletic prowess. And of the 13 children they have right now, 10 of them are girls. So Shaun Alexander's case kinda flies in the face of this very dumb theory. But say an NFL MVP and a WNBA MVP get married. If they have enough kids (let's call it 10), then at a certain point one of them is probably going to play professional sports. Maybe multiple. Say just one of their son's is elite and winds up having a $100M career, and another kid makes a modest $20M. $120M divvied up between 10 kids is good enough for them all to make $200k/year for 60 years. That's a hell of a lot more money than most people make.

You simply have a shit load of kids, then convince your talented ones to pay for the lives of their underachieving siblings. It's the least they could do to thank you for blessing them with good genes. If you can do that, then you're free blow your career earnings however you please.

I should really be teaching money management to rich athletes.

But congratulations to Shaun Alexander. The man has a big happy family. And never once has he been forced to cut a plea deal.
