'Spaceballs 2' Has Officially Entered Production With 99-Year-Old Mel Brooks And Rick Moranis Coming Out Of Retirement For The First Time In 30 Years
'Spaceballs 2' has officially entered production with 99-year-old Mel Brooks, Bill Pullman, Daphne Zuniga, George Wyner, and Rick Moranis all returning (Moranis coming out of retirement for his first live action movie since 1997!) - and they'll be joined by new castmates Lewis Pullman, Josh Gad, Keke Palmer, and Anthony Carrigan. They released a table read photo this morning emulating the first look at 'The Force Awakens' back in 2014....
....and I am fired the fuck up for this. I'm worried, as well, don't get me wrong - I know this could be a disaster (as many legacy sequels are) but I have faith in this team to deliver something that winds up being REALLY funny. I mean, you've got Mel Brooks, Bill Pullman, and Rick Moranis; endless new Star Wars material to parody, and even just the current reboot culture in Hollywood seems like an easy target for them! I like the new cast too! Josh Gad will likely play the son of Barf (RIP John Candy) and I assume Lewis Pullman will be playing a 'Spaceballs' version of Kylo Ren just based on the father/son connection with Lone Star. Even the prospect of that is really funny to me. I'm not sure exactly what kinda roles Anthony Carrigan/Keke Palmer will play (maybe Carrigan as a Snoke type character/Palmer as a Rey type character?), but I like both of them a lot as well.
I will say, this better be called 'Spaceballs 2: The Search for More Money' or better yet - 'Spaceballs 3: The Search for Spaceballs 2: The Search for More Money' or we're just wasting our time here. Do the right thing, MGM.
