I Root For Caleb Williams!
Lots of internet discourse today about Caleb Williams. Not on the Barstool Sports blog for some reason, maybe the WiFi is down in Chicago, I don't know, but I figured I'd hop in and give my 2 cents- I root for Caleb Williams! As a Commanders fan, I have literally nothing against the Bears or Caleb. In fact, I'm pulling for the guy. There is no reason not to, at all. The Commies and Bears aren't rivals. Sure there's the PFT/Big Cat podcast dynamic but I don't really care about that. I don't root against a player or teams based on podcasters. So I see no reason for any Commies fan to think of Caleb as anything other than just another bad quarterback in the NFL.
Look, there are a lot of things that people are saying which are true: Ryan Poles did not even bring Jayden in for a pre-draft interview. Bears fans do yap nonstop on Twitter about Jayden and have tried to make the Bears/Commanders a rivalry because of it. Ryan Poles did trade a 2nd rounder for Montez Sweat and give him a $100 million contract only for him to be a complete non-factor. Ben Johnson did turn down the Commanders head coaching job because he said the team was run by a bunch of "basketball guys". All of that is true, so I get why Bears fans hate us. But to me, I see no reason to hate them. Those are all self-inflected wounds as far as I can tell. All Jayden does is mind his own business and win football games. I do not think he cares what Caleb Williams and his absurd undershirt are doing halfway across the country, and neither do I.
I see no reason to root against Caleb. In fact, I'm pulling for him! I watch him complete a pass and find myself like "Go Caleb Go!" like I'm watching my little brother get his first hit at tee-ball.
Caleb was drafted into a terrible situation and to their credit the Bears have changed a lot to try and help him. Ben Johnson clearly designed the offense to cater to Caleb's current skill-set. I mean the guy went 10/10 to start the game! He had some shiftiness in the pocket that would have been sacks last season. He threw a couple absolute darts that he never would have thrown last season. Yeah he missed on a few throws
But you know, all QBs do. People are trying way too hard to dunk on Caleb for his misses and not enough praise for being the leading passer and rusher for the Bears.
Let me say it loud and clear- Good luck to the Bears and to Caleb Williams the rest of the season!
Oh but I did lie earlier- it's absolutely fuck Ben Johnson forever. I don't have anything against the Bears but I love watching that smug asshole lose.
