Clayton Kershaw and Max Scherzer Face Each Other Tonight for the First Time Since 2008 — When the Game Was Supposed To Be Greg Maddux vs. Randy Johnson

For just the second — and likely last — time, Clayton Kershaw and Max Scherzer will square off at Dodger Stadium on Friday night. The last time the two faced each other was also in Los Angeles in 2008, but everyone who showed up to the ballpark expected to see two Hall of Famers in Greg Maddux and Randy Johnson. As it turns out, they got that anyway.

I can't believe these guys haven't matched up more than once with as long as they've pitched, but that should make tonight that much more special. Kershaw and Scherzer are two of just 10 pitchers in Major League history with 215 wins, 3,000 strikeouts and a career ERA less than 3.20. They should both be unanimous first ballot Hall of Famers.

Scherzer has been fine in his eight starts this season, but Kershaw has been great for the Dodgers, racking up his 11th All-Star nod at 37 years old. Hopefully these two can both pitch like it's 2017 tonight and put on a show.

Having fun and meaningful baseball games to watch in August is a great privilege. I miss it dearly.
