Chargering Never Dies! Rashawn Slater Ruptured His Patellar Tendon 11 Days After Signing The Biggest Offensive Lineman Contract In NFL History
In the micro, this blows. OL sometimes go under-appreciated so, if you didn't know, Slater is one of the best left tackles in football. An absolute alien that locks up just about everyone he lines up against. Last year, Slater and Joe Alt turned out to be one of the best tackle duos in the NFL. Even when the Chargers interior offensive line was getting caved in every game, you could count on seeing those two doing their jobs right. The team seemed to make some strides towards fixing that IOL, signing Mekhi Beckton away from the Eagles but now the entire structure of the unit is going to change. Alt is likely going to kick out to LT and Trey Pipkins, who struggled a TON, is going to play RT. As much as I love Alt and Beckton, I have no faith in Pipkins/Bozeman/Johnson.
On the macro level, this is just hilariously Chargers shit. ELEVEN DAYS after making him the highest paid player at his position, his knee explodes. And not even just a simple ACL or whatever but a patellar tendon. An injury that no NFL player comes back at the same level from. Incredible!
This, of course, is just the latest development in one of the dumber offseasons this cursed team has had in recent memory. I'm gonna throw this onto the list alongside
- Najee Harris, who has never missed a game, blowing up his face with fireworks
- Mike Williams retiring right when camp started.
- The team facing a class-action lawsuit from season ticket holders over the stupid Brazil game.
Nothing to do now but drown out the pain with some Sierra Nevadas.
