Gotta Try Anything To Win: Florida Football Brought In 7'9" Olivier Rioux For A Tryout To To Be A Guy Who Only Blocks Kicks

[Source] - There was one issue: The 305-pound Rioux has an 11-inch vertical, so even with his extra-long reach, he was unable to block any kicks during the workout.

"They were a little disappointed," Golden said.

I hate everything about Florida, but I have to respect the move. It's fucking hilarious to look at the 7'9" guy and try to bring him in as a permanent blocker. It's like the old school backyard all-time quarterback except if the guy can't throw. Yeah 7'9" is great, but what's the point if you can't jump? I'm pretty sure everyone playing in Monday's game has an 11-inch vertical or better and reminder, this is what we're talking about:

I do need more of this thinking across sports. We hear all the time with soccer, what if our best athletes grew up playing the sport? Well, what if all our tall freaks played special teams in football? We're finding that out. Also reminds me of this:

Makes me think who from the basketball world would be good at this idea of bringing in guys to block kicks. I think my list for 11 on special teams, field goal block unit, would be:

Victor Wembayama, Anthony Edwards, Mac McClung, Luka Doncic (over the ball, eat space), Zach LaVine, Aaron Gordon, Donovan Mitchell, JaVale McGee, Bam Adebayo, Josh Hart and Cooper Flagg. There's my 11, good luck kicking over that. Got some size, jumpers, fat dudes, we're set.

What I do need Florida to do now is bring Rioux back and see him tryout for other positions. Maybe he has a rocket arm? Put him in goal line situations for a fade and see if he can catch a ball. You got the start of an idea, now you gotta finish it.
