Fantastic Four: First Steps Was A Solid Movie Featuring Marvel's First Family, Which Is Exactly What The MCU Needed It To Be (Spoiler-Free Review)
As you can tell in the video above that everyone definitely watched, liked, and subscribed to, Robbie and I liked Fantastic Four: First Steps. It wasn't the best MCU movie by any means, but it was good and definitely the best Fantastic Four movie, which admittedly isn't that hard to clear. But it still did exactly what it had to do, which was bring Marvel's first family into its cinematic universe with a good cast of likable characters that you want to see more of in the future.
I think there's a case to be made that this could have been a bigger movie if the MCU was in better shape with a more wide open timeline. But at some point, Kevin Feige & Co. have to get shit together for Avengers: Doomsday after a forgettable phase without a handful of their biggest characters. I think that led to this movie simply being a way to get The Fantastic 4 on the chessboard, give their background story to the audience, and put on a fun 2 hour show while introducing The Silver Surfer as well as Galactus (who were both pretty damn cool).
All in all, Fantastic Four: First Steps serves its purpose, is entertaining, and is really nice to look at. The way they pulled off the retro yet futuristic world was very cool and they keep the audience on their toes the entire time. It may not be the home run people were hoping for when they first heard The Fantastic Four was heading to the MCU. But it is most certainly a hit that keeps the Marvel winning streak alive after Daredevil: Born Again and Thunderbolts* that includes one good and one alright post credits scene. After all we've been through since Endgame, I will happily take the first steps of this Fantastic Four and can't wait to see what they do in the future with the rest of the MCU.
Full MMB recap with Robbie coming on Thursday. Make sure to join us in the basement after you get out of the theater.
