Good Start: Overnight Leader Jacob Skov Olesen Quickly Crashed Out Of Contention By Hitting First Two Tee Shots OB, Put Up An EIGHT On No. 1
This was the leaderboard a mere 28 hours ago. Jacob Skov Olesen had a share of the lead, looked the part yesterday while most people wondered who the hell is this guy. Well, he played at Arkansas, became the first Dane to win The Amateur Championship at Ballyliffin and made the cut last year at The Open.
Then this happened
Nothing like smashing your first shot OB and hitting a grandstand that you overcompensate and hit it OB the other way. That's how you throw away your chances, even if it's early on a Friday. Guys are scoring today. You have Brian Harman in the lead at -7, because it's The Open during a Ryder Cup year and this is what Brian Harman does. It's also why No. 1 at Portrush is getting talked about a ton
Brutal. You go to bed, try to sleep knowing you played one of the best rounds of your pro life, leading The Open and then do this. Can't even ask for a breakfast ball like most of us would do after smashing that first one OB. I do love that Portrush has this tough first hole. No easing into it like other courses have for The Open. Try for carnage here, if you can avoid OB go get a birdie. Speaking of which, at least Olesen got a birdie on 2. He still may have a decent finish, his chances of winning just went away though.
