Pete Alonso Thinks That Baseball Should Allow Fights Like Hockey And He Makes Some Pretty Good Points

Goddamn I love that big meatball Pete Alonso. I feel like most of the time the only thought going through Pete's big ol' head are HIT BASEBALL. But every so often, he hits the pause button on his quest of murdering baseballs and drops a profound nugget that makes you go "hmmm".

Pete's fight proposal doesn't dabble in the conspiracy section but it hits just as hard. I mean think about it, why can't Major Leaguers fight? It seems like we finally ended all the nonsense about bat flips after a home run and pitchers screaming on the mound after getting a big out. But there is still that gray area that comes with a pitcher hitting a batter. Teams get mad, sometimes retaliate, and you occasionally get full out wars like the Dodgers and Padres had last month.

So why not let the two guys involved hash things out? Like Pete said, guys usually get hurt only when you have dozens of humans running into each other and swinging recklessly while the people who actually started the scrum are blocked behind a wall of humanity. But if you just make a 1v1 battle on the mound, it is contained to the guys that actually have a problem with each other, instead of pure chaos like this awesome video illustrates.

The one issue I'm having is whether a batter should be allowed to wear his gear into battle or if he should be forced to take it off considering some guys have equipment covering half their body, including their head, which is the sweet spot for any opponent to target during the fight. However, the pitcher technically has a weapon in his hand in the ball that can start the whole fracas, so I'll let Pete decide what the rules should be for fighting. Not that it will be allowed anytime soon, since this dickhead is still in charge of Major League Baseball.

But maybe one day if someone cool that actually cares about the future of baseball like Theo Epstein takes over as commissioner, we can put fighting in the sport where it belongs, as this video can attest.
