End Of An Era: Goldberg Wrestled His Final Match Last Night

It's the end of an era. Last night at Saturday Night's Main Event in Atlanta, Georgia, Bill Goldberg wrestled his final match. It was against Gunther for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, and he didn't come out with the win (he did the classic pro wrestling thing and put a younger guy over on his way out - respect) but he sure as hell did his best to make it special....

His walkout crew included his son, Chuck Zito, WCW Head of Security Doug Dellinger, Josh Barnett, and Ernest "The Cat" Miller - and the "GOOOOLDDDDDBERRRGGGG" chants rang loud throughout the arena.

If we're being honest, it was clear pretty quickly that he wasn't quite as fast as he was even a few years ago in the WWE, and it didn't look easy getting Gunther up there for the Jackhammer - but it wasn't an embarrassing showing or anything in my opinion. It was completely serviceable and nice for Goldberg to have an actual farewell to wrestling; even if his final speech got cut off by the end of the broadcast....

And in a world where pro wrestling retirements mean about as much as Monopoly money, I actually believe this one's gonna stick. I think Goldberg wanted to retire years ago, but just wanted a proper send-off, and felt a bit hurt that Vince McMahon didn't give that to him. Then once Triple H took over, I guess talks resumed and they arranged for one final hometown match to say goodbye. That's at least how it seemed from the outside.

It's crazy but now that Sting and Goldberg have both decided to hang up the boots, the end of WCW really feels final now - there's not even many remnants. You could argue Chris Jericho and Rey Mysterio and say there's guys who were in the company that are still active, but you know what I mean….the tried and true faces of WCW are officially done for good. Pretty wild to think about.

Here's some old school Goldberg to help you relieve all the good times….
