It's Happening: 'The Office' Spinoff Is Premiering On September 4 As 'The Paper' And Oscar Is Officially Coming Back As The Same Character

I can't believe it's happening. I mean, I know, there have been reports about this for more than enough time:

But it still didn't sound real. Well, now it is and we have a poster, a premier date, schedule and even now know that Oscar is coming back:

[Source] - The cast of the series includes Domhnall Gleeson, Sabrina Impacciatore, Oscar Nuñez, who is reprising his role from “The Office,” Chelsea Frei, Melvin Gregg, Gbemisola Ikumelo, Alex Edelman, Ramona Young, and Tim Key.

In a trailer played at the NBCUniversal upfront presentation, it was revealed that the show takes place in the offices of the Toledo Truth-Teller. The documentary crew makes their way around the room, revealing that Oscar (Nuñez) is now working as an accountant for the paper. He is none too happy to see the doc crew again. Impacciatore plays the managing editor, while Gleeson plays an idealistic new employee.

We all agree it's weird that only Oscar is back, right? Feel like it either has to be a handful of characters or none at all. Really depressing for Oscar though to go from Scranton to Toledo and I say that as someone who grew up 2ish hours from Scranton and now live 3ish hours from Toledo. If you're going to go Pennsylvania-Ohio correctly you go from York to Cincinnati, everyone knows that's the real pipeline.

I said it in the previous blog and I said it with Happy Gilmore 2. People are going to hate this right off the bat. I get it, no one wants to see an all-time show or movie remade. The key is just make it entertaining enough to have it on at some point during the day/night. It doesn't have to be appointment television. It just needs to have a couple funny moments and entertaining enough that I don't forget about it. If that's the case, it's a win.

They are going to try and make it similar, they just can't. You can't have the same type of boss as Michael Scott, you can't have the receptionist-sales guy love story. Mix it up from time to time and at least give us something somewhat new, even in Toledo. Also don't love this coming out right when football starts. Gotta drop this in the summer and give people a chance to watch it, tough to do during football.
