At Long Last, A Third National Treasure Movie Is Reportedly In The Works At Disney

Not too long ago I spearheaded a conversation in the office about how insane it is that a third National Treasure movie has never been made. Think about how many awful sequels we've seen over the years. Did you know they made a fifth Scary Movie film starring Ashley Tisdale? A second Paul Blart Mall Cop was made. They made SEVEN Police Academy films??? The first two National Treasure movies are awesome. Nic Cage, Diane Kruger, and Justin Bartha are a really fun trio and the plots are interesting to follow. The original and Book of Secrets are genuinely two enjoyable movies that both made a good chunk of money that profited from their budgets. The franchise was seemingly a well oiled machine. So why wasn't there a third movie made? You'd think by now there would be five of these, not just two. I've been on the case for a bit now and can really only chalk it up to not being able to get Nic Cage on board.

Forever there have been rumors, almost one a year, that claimed a third edition was in the works, only to have that fade into the distance. We got that awful spinoff TV series that no one watched which maybe cautioned the studio to not green light an additional movie, but that's bullshit. Nic Cage wasn't involved! You need all three back together. Finally —fingers crossed— we might actually be getting somewhere. Robbie Fox tells me this guy reporting this is pretty reliable.

(Source) Next, Daniel RPK is reporting that Chris Bremner (“Bad Boys for Life”) is penning a new draft of a script for a third “National Treasure”. Bremner has been attached to the project for years, basically during the early days of the pandemic, but the scooper indicates there’s some heat under the production again with the new draft getting the go ahead.

Just make the fucking movie already. Get the gang back together and let's find out what was on page 47 of the book of secrets. I'm there opening night.

P.S. Diane Kruger is too slept on.
