UNC is Forced to Release Emails from Donors, Alum and Faculty Calling Bill Belichick 'a Disgrace to Our University'

If ever there were jobs where, when you hire a man to do them, you hire the whole man - mind, body and spirit - it's that of football head coach. Sure, you can say that about a US President. But those guys get to golf any time they want and go on overseas missions and leave their personal lives behind. Not so, a football coach. You get him, you get his whole life. Lock, stock and barrel. His inner life, his external life, his family life, and even his romantic life. There's no separating the two when he's putting in 20 hour days looking for a competitive advantage over the Richmond Spiders on September 13th. (My tickets are purchased. See you at Kenan Stadium. Go Tar Heels.)

Fortunately for the University of North Carolina, they got the best of the best when they landed the Total Package that is Bill Belichick. With all his various lives. Inner, external, family:

… and yes, his romantic life:

But because the world is a terrible place filled with awful, unappreciative ingrates who refuse to recognize how fortunate they are, some from Chapel Hill don't see it that way:

Source - Numerous emails from University of North Carolina donors, alumni, and faculty …  which were obtained through a public records request, show a stunning lack of support for the Tar Heels’ new football coach.

In one email obtained by DailyMail.com, a donor wrote, “What a total embarrassment to UNC. I am withdrawing all my donations and future donations.”

In another email from a University of North Carolina faculty member, the disgruntled employee complained about there not being “enough money to hire the numbers of professors we need, but paying a 73-year-old guy with no college football experience [sic] 10 millions is OK (and then letting him hire his son)?”

I can't continue without first addressing this disgruntled nobody. Anonymous, irrelevant worker drones like you have been making this same complaint since school athletics were invented. "Oh, why are we wasting money on sports? Why don't we hire more professors?" There's always some Myra Fleener who wants Jimmy Chitwood to focus on studies so he can be a U. of Indian Math major no one remembers, instead of being "treated like some kind of god just because he can throw a basketball through a hoop." Well I've got news for you, Professor Downer. UNC has all the educators they need. What they didn't have until recently, is someone with a boat called VIII Rings who can make their football program relevant. Generate revenue. Put asses in seats and eyeballs on screens. Attract that sweet, sweet NIL money for his recruits and get to a bowl game. No one's going to go on DraftKings to wager on the Over/Under of Professor Buzzkill's next Gender Studies lecture. So keep your feigned outrage in your pants, Hoss.

We continue:

Much of the criticism from donors, alumni and faculty was levied at North Carolina’s director of athletics Bubba Cunningham. …

“When you agreed to pay a king’s ransom to hire Bill Belichick, did you also know that you [were] hiring Jordon Hudson to serve as the primary face of UNC athletics?” one faculty member wrote to Cunningham in an email. “Normally I would say the University should not concern itself with its employees’ personal lives. But when a prominent employee injects his significant other into the University’s affairs, it becomes the University’s concern. … She’s already an embarrassment and it’s only going to get worse. Please end this circus before the season begins.”

In another … someone wrote, “Jordon Hudson has no business getting involved with Belichick’s work-related business at Chapel Hill unless she’s on your payroll. It’s bad enough the nepotism you’ve allowed by also hiring Belichick’s son.”

Another UNC grad wrote to Cunningham, “Bill Belichick is a disgrace to our university. … Please do something.”

"Disgrace"? A UNC graduate actually called their new head coach a disgrace. I feel like in Patton where a newspaper ripped him for slapping a private. "'Despicable.' That's the first time anyone' ever applied that word to me."

And why, exactly? Because he's surrounding himself with trusted advisors? People who love him. Who are loyal to him. Who share his visions on football, managing people and life in general? One of whom was the defensive coordinator on a team that played for the National Championship. Another who's been a successful position coach on one of the best defenses in the NFL. And another who's a National Championship cheerleader. Plus other people he knows and has faith in. What exactly is the problem here?

I suppose these ungrateful twats would just feel better if their new head coach just kept the same losers around who have been leading the Tar Heels to the Duke's Mayo Bowl and the Wasabi Fenway Bowl against that powerhouse football factory UConn. The staff that have taken them to double digit wins once in the last 27 seasons. (Despite the fact they had the great Drake Maye starting for two of them.) Just sticking to the status quo of mediocrity and irrelevance. Instead of, I don't know, hiring the best football mind of all time, then standing back, letting him do his thing, and stand back in awe as North Carolina football becomes great.

They don't deserve Bill Belichick, or Steve and Brian. And they don't deserve the woman who's standing by his side throughout. But I'm still looking forward to watching him take them into National Championship contention and proving them wrong. Lord knows he's got a history of doing exactly that.

Buy a shirt. I've already got mine.
