The Brick Hockey Invitational at The West Edmonton Mall This Weekend Puts The Little League World Series to Shame
I hate to sound anti-American coming off July 4th weekend and all. I'm a fan of the Little League World Series. I always have a healthy respect our nation's greatest pastime. But boy does Canada do youth hockey right. I don't have any videos of my squirt travel hockey team from back in the day, but I'm quite certain our games didn't look like that. We certainly never electrified a mall. Those are some insanely impressive 10-year old's. And damn do these travel hockey teams have some cool ass jerseys nowadays.
It's like someone took a shrink ray to an NHL game. What an event that I never knew existed until right now. I'm halfway pissed I didn't know about it ahead of time so that I could have been locked in all weekend. I'll never forgive myself for missing the BC Jr. Canucks legendary comeback over the Detroit Jr. Red Wings in the 2025 Brick Invitational Semi-Finals.
You gotta feel for the Jr. Red Wings goalie after that one. Just a disgustingly cruel hop that puck took on him on the go-ahead goal.
There was also a Team USA vs Team Canada game that happened yesterday morning. I must say, I'm a bit suspicious of who Canada invited to represent the United States in this tournament.
I mean, that Jaden Becker kid of CCM Chicago is clearly the next Patrick Kane. But 15 goals? I have half a mind to accuse Canada of inviting some lesser-Americans that they knew they could Harlem Globetrotters up and down the ice to put on a show for their hometown fans. Perhaps as retaliation for losing back-to-back Stanley Cups to a team from Sunrise, Florida.
I don't have much else on the Brick Hockey Invitational. Just thought that looked like a pretty sick youth hockey tournament with some crazy talented kids. I've been watching the highlights on Twitter all morning, and I keep being more and more impressed.
Good stuff from the Brick Invitational this weekend. I've always loved a good ice rink in a mall. There's one in Dallas that I really wanted to skate on when I used to live down there, but never got around to it. It was a much different vibe in Dallas though. You were far more like to catch something along the lines of this than a quality game of puck.
