Diego Luna Is Everything US Soccer Fans Have Been Begging To See - Put On A Show While Saving Our Ass Against Guatemala, Sends Us To The Gold Cup Finals

Diego Luna isn't the most well-known American soccer player. He's the most well known at his position or even on this Gold Cup roster. But, Diego Luna is everything that US soccer fans have been wanting to cheer for. He's balls to the wall for 90 minutes (or however long he's out there for). Hell, at one point Mauricio Pochettino claimed he has balls of steel 

He scored against Costa Rica last match and then tonight did this:

I know, I know, it's Guatemala. Look, we can't help that we play CONCACAF and people mostly say shit doesn't matter unless you're playing Mexico. We should win this game. But it's still CONCACAF and what I mean by that is the shithousery that happens every single match in this federation. Guatemala played perfect CONCACAF soccer, which is how they scored late and made this a game despite Luna's brace early. 

It's not just Luna. Malik Tillman broke out during the Gold Cup and you now have two guys being talked about as possible starters for the World Cup next year. That's why people wanted to see Pulisic and others here (who aren't tied to the Club World Cup obviously). Assuming everyone is healthy you basically have starting spots next year for Chris Richards, Antonee Robinson, Sergino Dest, Christian Pulisic, Tyler Adams, Weston McKennie and then it's pretty open. Where it gets interesting is what do you do with Pulisic, Weah, Musah, Tillman, Luna and that group. All I know is at this point Tillman and Luna are locks for the roster assuming they are both healthy. 

This isn't about next year though. This is about Diego Luna who has won over basically every single US soccer fan. I don't know a single person who doesn't want him to be one of the key pieces of this group. The man was playing for El Paso Locomotive until 2022 and is now wearing the number 10 for the US in a tournament and scoring a ton of goals. I don't care it's Guatemala, you can only play who is in front of you. Now bring on Mexico or Honduras in the finals.
