'Done Deal' - This Video Of Rich Paul Calling The Suns To Discuss Khaman Malauch Falling To Them At 10 Is An Incredible Look At How The Draft Really Operates
This is far from the first time something along these lines happened, but it's coming out today so we talk about it. Guys work on guarantees and deals all the time far before the NBA Draft actually happens. Khaman Malauch wasn't expected to be there at 10, it makes everything before that a little more questionable though. But, if you have a guy like Rich Paul who apparently pulls strings everywhere call you and say a name, then hits you with a 'done deal', you gotta accept it. This isn't even just the NBA Draft. This is every draft, this is how agents are supposed to do their thing.
It is hilarious and eye opening listening to him say 'if he gets past Brooklyn.' That let you know the Raptors weren't taking him. Again, something that happens, and why we need cameras on people at all times. I said it during the NFL Draft. I'd watch 6 hours of a film where it's just front offices discussing trades and dealing with agents. They know exactly who they want and how it's going to shake out. Also goes to show you how important the money for each slot is now. Guys make money in NIL and then sign deals before they even get the rookie deal. Shit like that doesn't matter.
Absolutely awesome to see this unfold. Give me more of this. I want to know every backroom deal. I want to see every call where agents are trying to steer their players to a certain franchise. I'll never say someone should go to Brooklyn over the Suns. No brainer to play for Phoenix. Either way, welcome to the NBA Draft.
