It's Horrifying That Convicted Pedophile Wander Franco Likely Won't Spend Another Second In Jail

Yesterday we learned the terrible news that convicted pedophile Wander Franco was getting let off with a slap of the wrist down in the DR. While he was found guilty, the former Rays star was only being handed a two year prison sentence for his crimes.

Even worse? It's a suspended sentence, so as long as he doesn't fuck up —and by that I mean further approaching minors with sexual intentions — he'll never actually serve the time.

Let me remind you this is a monster who knowingly engaged in a relationship with a minor who was FOURTEEN YEARS OLD. Not only that, but he was found in texts saying "I took a risk and I loved it." It was discovered he told this girl he wanted her to forget everything she had learned to that point in her life and raise her himself his way. This is not someone who should ever see the sun again. His fate should be either getting fed to sharks or being locked away in a hole for eternity. I get that it's the Dominican Republic and this fear of him getting let off easy was always possible with the money he has, if not probable, but it's still awful. Yes, he'll never obtain a visa again and therefore will never be allowed back in the United States to play baseball, but that's not even close to enough.

The other gross development here is that the mother of the minor was very much guilty of pimping her daughter out to Franco. She was paid tens of thousands of dollars and proceeded to fly her daughter via helicopter to meet up with Wander. For that she'll serve 10 years.

None of this story is good. There's no happy ending in the slightest. It's just a bad reminder of how terrible a lot of people have it in this world. Hopefully Wander gets what he deserves in another way now that the justice system down there has failed everyone.
