Congratulations To San Antonio Spurs #2 Overall Pick, Dylan Harper And His Family On Their Big Night

What a night for the young man. What a night for the Harper family. What a remarkable come up it would be for the Harpers if father Ron hadn't already played 15 seasons in the NBA, won 5 NBA Championships, and made 1-year of a Michael Porter Jr. contract's worth of money in the process. Either way, it's a proud moment for any parent when their child is drafted to the NBA. I'm sure it's especially special for a father when he's following in your footsteps. Especially for a mother, who's name is Maria Harper, who played college basketball herself, has 30 years of coaching experience, and who Dylan Harper considers his first coach.

People – Maria cut up the court herself, as a Division I basketball player for the University of New Orleans from 1993 to 1996, per the Rutgers University website.

After her college basketball days, Maria took her love of basketball to the sidelines and started her coaching career, which has lasted nearly 30 years, according to The Springfield Student.

In a December 2024 interview with Swish Cultures, Dylan opened up about how his mom helped him become the basketball star he is today, saying, "She's been there from the jump."

"She was my first ever coach. She's everything to me," he continued. "She does everything for me. She's always a provider, no matter what, hard times, good times, she's been there for me through thick and thin."

What a heartwarming story of a tried and true basketball family. Couldn't be happier for them. They've come a long way since that big dumb bitch Adrian Wojnarowski inserted himself like the selfish douche bag he is and spoiled Dylan Harper's Rutgers' commitment with a tweet before Dylan Harper even got to do the thing where he sits down at a table and chooses from a bunch of hats.

Wonder what the phone he tweeted that from would have sold for at auction. I really wished Dylan Harper would have pulled his commitment when that happened. Just to blow up Woj's spot and make it so school's would never trust him with recruit information again. In hindsight, it probably would have been a smart basketball move for Dylan as well. I mean, it didn't end up mattering. He still went 2nd overall. It's not like he was ever going to be drafted ahead of Cooper Flagg. Rutgers just stunk out loud last year is all I'm saying. But regardless, I know his parents Ron and Maria, who divorced in 2012, are still endlessly proud of their son.
