'To Be Number 1 At Something Is Always Nice' - Tommy Fleetwood Is Cool With Being Called The Best Player Without A Win, Could Change It All Today
Quick shout out to Tommy Fleetwood, who could have a career-changing day. He deserves it after Adam Schefter insulted him to the high heavens on Thursday:
Still can't believe Schefter was just like yeah this guy never won, Dak Prescott. Either way, Fleetwood has put on a damn show so far at the Travelers.
Golf is weird in the sense that no one would say Tommy Fleetwood has had a bad career. He's been elite for most of his career and has one of the best nicknames in all of sports with Fairway Jesus. But, it's still lingering over his head. No PGA Tour wins. It gets brought up any time Fleetwood is near the lead, doesn't even matter the tournament or round he's on. But he had the perfect answer to never winning. He's the best to do it. Won't hear any arguments, he's going to use that as a good argument too, also helps when you make about $30 million on the course.
But obviously a win changes the whole narrative about his career. No more that he can't do it, no more that he is going to choke away leads or just make runs on Sunday to finish top 5. He at least gets an elevated event on his resume and heads into The Open with some sort of momentum if he holds onto the lead today. A real destiny vs destiny type fight in Connecticut today though
