"You Have To Not Just Be a Hitter, You Have To Be The Full Package" - Career DH David Ortiz Throws More Shade At Rafael Devers And Continues To Shill For The Red Sox

The Rafael Devers-Red Sox saga enters another stage tonight as Boston visits the Giants for a 3 game set in San Francisco. As we gear up for that, David Ortiz has continued his shilling for the Red Sox organization that still very much cuts him a check. It's sad to see.
There was also this dandy of a quote.
"Players come and go. As a player, sometimes you've got to put your ego aside and understand that once you get paid, you've got to find a way to do what you're told.
Funny thing about putting your ego aside and doing what you're told…
Papi calling out Devers for not being more than just a hitter is rich. Dude played over 2,000 games as a DH. Sure he saw some time at first base, but it's not like Devers refused to play the field, it's actually the opposite here. Obviously Ortiz is referring to being a team guy and doing whatever you can for the organization whether it be interviews, charity work, leadership, etc. Papi was very much a great teammate and a leader, but let's also stop pretending he always saw eye to eye with the front office. And that was mostly with Theo running the show. I'd love to see him do that dance with this buffoon in Breslow who very much botched the Devers situation from the jump.

Devers wanted to play the field, that's literally what started this whole disaster. They lied to him and said Bregman wasn't 1) joining the team 2) playing 3rd. After agreeing to become a full-time DH and following in Papi's footsteps, he was told to throw away his glove for the year, before being asked to play first just a few weeks later. He told ownership he would play next year with a full offseason to work at it. They decided to ship him off for a bag of balls.
While John Henry doesn't want to pay people to be the face of the franchise at least he has guys like Ortiz still on payroll to shill for him to try to change the public narrative when he sabotages the team like this. Thank you Craig Breslow. Thank you John Henry.
I'll be on Devers 2+ bases tonight.
