Fighting Adrian Peterson Over A Poker Game Is A Hell Of A Decision...But This Guy Actually Did Pretty Well
I just got back from Vegas. I got my ass kicked in every tournament I played. Was a bloodbath like you read about. Made me question everything I thought I knew. All I've done for the last year is work to get better at poker. I have decent results online, but then I went to WSOP and came home empty handed. I mean I only played 4 tournaments so it's par for the course, but my expectations were much higher than going 0/4. Considering pros cash in roughly 15% of tournaments, going 0/4 means very little, but it still stings a bit. Nothing is more fun than making a run in a poker tournament. Stacking chips, making towers, and owning your table. That's what I live for. For four straight tournaments I got zero momentum, and then flew home. So I understand *exactly* where Adrian Peterson is coming from. By the 6th bad beat you're ready to throw hands at whoever is across the table from you. This sweet old lady called my preflop 3bet with QJo and flopped trips and I just knew I could go full Bubba Ray Dudley vs Mae Young on her. Not that I would...but I coulda!
As the story goes, Mae farted in Bubba's face at the end there.
BUT I DIGRESS!
Poker is a cruel mistress. There are only a handful of people in the world actually hood at it- everyone else is just chasing one big score. When people ask if I'm good my general answer is that I'm better than most people just walking around and the amateurs who don't really know what they're doing, but the pros are much better than me. Like, I've final tabled things, I am up a decent amount playing cash, etc. But am I on DPeters level? Fuck no.
Imagine Peterson at a table with Kabrhel? Fists would be flying before the first river card. Donnybrooks for days.
I will say though, for fighting an ex-NFL player, the other dude held his ground spectacularly. Whatever the fight was over, I award the other guy the win in the fight and the poker hand as well.
I will be returning to Vegas for the Main Event on July 5th. I cashed last year (717th), so hopefully I make it 2 in a row. And then use that money to play Dave heads up for $20k. Would be a nice little parlay!
