Well Well Well, How The Turntables: Kevin Durant Reportedly Wants To Go To The Knicks But The Knicks Don't Want Him
CUE THE MOTHERFUCKING CLIP!!!!!!!
I gotta tell you guys, last week got a little rough when seemingly every team in the NBA declined the Knicks' request to interview their coach, which resulted in all the old LOLKnicks takes being dredged up from the abyss. But to have all that flip on a dime with Kevin Durant saying he wants to go to New York only for Leon Rose and Worldwide Wes to wag the Mutombo finger at him makes it all worth it.
Don't get me wrong, Kevin Durant is still a freak of nature that can score unlimited buckets pretty much whenever he wants. Yet despite that, I want no part of him. Not just because his 37-year-old legs have a ton of wear and tear on them, the apron rules would require the Knicks to part with multiple valuable pieces in order to get him, or the fact he has had a black cloud hang over every franchise he joined since he got mopey in Golden State after Draymond hurt his feelings. But because he already had his chance to sign with a New York basketball team and he chose the goddamn NETS over the Knicks, then dropped this line as Knicks fans recovered from hitting rock bottom for about the seventh time this century.
To clarify, I don't blame KD for choosing the Nets over the Knicks back then. The Nets had a much better franchise from top to bottom while the Knicks were still being run into the ground by Steve Mills & Co. But KD made his decision to team up with the very rational Kyrie Irving and play for a team that registered absolutely zero pulse in the city despite three of the best players on the planet playing for it and being a toe away from an Eastern Conference Finals appearance, which could've easily led to an NBA Championship. The Knicks sure as shit weren't cool when KD signed in 2019. But his snubbing was the final straw to get Steve Mills fired and allowed Leon Rose to take over the Knicks then build it shrewdly over the last five years, which resulted in an Eastern Conference this year and the Knicks being cool enough that they take over the capital of the world during the playoffs while their arena looks like an A-List Oscars party every game.
So to answer your statement Marc Spears, Knicks Nation is more than fine with the front office passing on an aging, always unhappy superduperstar as he approaches his 40th birthday (which by the way he will likely want a $120+ million extension to get him there). Best of luck to wherever you land KD. I'm sure it won't be your last spot because of something that definitely wasn't your fault and the spot after that is where you will finally find happiness!
