Thoughts and Prayers to This Dad Who Opened a Rafael Devers Jersey for Father's Day Seconds After Devers Had Been Traded

Well, at least this is a Father's Day gift he won't ever forget.

Just brutal luck here for everyone involved. I don't actually think the Red Sox trading Rafael Devers is as terrible as some others seem to, but you can't do it on Father's Day. Wait until Monday when dads aren't opening presents from their children, at least.

If there's any consolation in this scenario, it's that the Red Sox new City Connect jerseys don't have names on the back, so this is still salvageable. Maybe Boston gets Kyle Tucker this off-season and he chooses to wear No. 11. Now this unfortunate gift has turned into a great one.

And even if nobody else chooses to wear Raffy's old number, you can say it's for Clay Buchholz — or that you're the world's biggest fan of Chase d'Arnaud, the journeyman infielder with a career -0.7 WAR in 550 at-bats who played two games for the Red Sox in 2017 and is also the frontman of the world-famous Chase d'Arnaud Band.

I'm sure this dad is not the only one in New England who was gifted a jersey of his favorite Red Sox player on the day he homered to put Boston back over .500 only to find out a few hours later that he now played for the San Francisco Giants. It's a cold business.
