I Absolutely LOVE This Move By A Guy Getting Married This Weekend Giving His Groomsmen Each A Future Ticket On The US Open
Golf Digest - If you’ve been in a wedding party recently, you know how much of a financial commitment it ends up being. Renting a suit or tux, traveling to a bachelor/bachelorette party, wedding gifts, lodging for a hotel … you might be in the hole for a couple grand to celebrate your good friend.
One groom is paying it forward with a fantastic gift to his groomsmen with a U.S. Open theme to allow one of his buddies to recoup most of his money. And we’re all for it.
A user on X, @WKFNate, shared the story about the groom giving out $25 outright betting tickets for the U.S. Open with his wedding falling on U.S. Open week. (I’d say poor timing and planning, but my wedding was during the 2019 Open Championship, so I can’t judge.)
What a move! Listen groomsmen gifts are very nice and can be very personal. At mine I gave each guy a moderately priced watch in a style I liked, cufflinks, and socks. In others I’ve been in have been bottles of liquor or even a pair of raybans. All great stuff. Some of the stuff is throw in’s like a bottle opener or a little gadget that can break etc. Instead of spending the money on little gifts like that - just throw everyone a future ticket.
That’s the way to do it. It gives someone everything to root for. You have not only the great opportunity of someone winning the money, but also the ability to laugh at the guy who gets really close and loses. It gives you something to watch while getting ready for the ceremony. Just an awesome idea. Hats off to this guy for literally a perfect groomsmen gift. More people need to do this for events around the calendar. Derby, March madness, CFB, Super Bowl, World Series and NBA Finals. Make it the norm.
The only thing of note here is that the groomsmen who does win MUST buy everyone else a round or give them a Venmo for a case of high noons. It’s only good gambling karma to pass the wins around to everyone.
Go Hovland. Happy Father’s Day
