"He's A Fucking Pussy. I'm Not Gonna Name No Names. He Knows Who He Is." - Cardinals First Baseman Willson Contreras Had Some Strong Words For Rhys Hoskins And The Brewers Dugout After A Collision At First Base

Ohhhh we got some bad blood brewing between these division rivals. No secret that the Cardinals and Brewers don't like each other and that was on full display on Saturday with some mini fireworks. It all stemmed from a collision at first base between Willson Contreras and Caleb Durbin. Contreras made the play at the bag and for some reason took a step back into the base path and collided right there with Durbin. No clue why Contreras took the step back into the base path? I mean he knew Durbin as running to first, did he not expect him to be there? Take a look here….
It's pretty clear this is on Contreras and not Durbin, I'd think the Brewers weren't too happy with this play since it could have really hurt Durbin, and their dugout let Contreras know about it. There was nothing Durbin could do, he was flying down the line and has 0 time to try and avoid the collision. Naturally there is some chirping back and forth between Willson and the Brewers dugout, mainly Rhys Hoskins. Just guys talking, nothing major but then the next time Willson stepped to the plate he wore one courtesy of the Brew Crew.
Jose Quintana tagged him high and tight in what was pretty clear was a retaliation move. Or was it? Willson's brother William is the catcher for the Brewers, is he calling for his brother to be smoked high and tight with a a pitch? Maybe I guess, but it is a game and maybe Quintana wanted to show Durbin he had his back. Contreras seemed to know he was going to be hit? Maybe that's why he acted the way he did, he made a move to first base before running all the way over and up the third baseline to get the ball and hand it back to Quintana while giving him a pat on the back. Contreras makes his way to first where he's greeted by….Rhys Hoskins, the guy chirping him from the dugout. Hoskins doesn't say a word to him while Willson is starring through his soul.

Game moves on without another incident but we get one last Willson AB in the 9th and boy did he make as statement there.
A homer to seal the game and Contreras topped it off with a 29.02 second trip around the bases. He was loving the boos, he thrives off stuff like this. He also took a nice, long peek into the Brewers dugout for good measure, just to make sure they knew what he just did. Longest Cardinals HR trot all year, my favorite was him just walking the last few feet, you could tell he was loving it. After the game he spoke with the media about chirping into the Brewers dugout and who he had an issue with, he didn't mince his words either.
He's clearing talking about Rhys Hoskins who he was inches away from at first, there's bad blood there for sure. Hoskins after the game mentioned that they were just talking about playing first base and that was it, but it's clear they don't like each other and that the Brewers weren't happy with Willson and how he went about that play. Polar opposite reactions postgame from those two guys, one guy name calling and trying to start something and one guy trying to move past it. But pretty strong words from Willson who started the whole thing. I mean you rarely hear an athlete call someone a "fucking pussy" directly to the media. He wanted all the smoke it seems, Rhys didn't seem too interested in escalating things and turning it up a notch. We get one more game this weekend with these two squads and it's safe to say tensions will be high. Really looking forward to either Hoskins or Contreras getting on first base to see what happens. A guy calls you a "fucking pussy" you kind of have to have words with him, right? Or he just proves his point.
