38 Years Old And Novak Djokovic Is Still Doing Crazy Shit At Grand Slams

For lack of a better word Novak Djokovic is a sicko. There's really no reason he should care this much at his age about being the best, but that's what separates the all-time greats of the game from those who are not. At this point in his career he has just about every record you can think of. The only one is the all-time slams record, which he's technically tied with Margaret Court for at 24, but even that no one really cares about since Court's number is skewed and cheaply attained because of the time and era she played in. Novak has beaten the game of tennis and has nothing left to prove. That's just a fact. Yet here this bastard is at 38 years old still doing the damn thing. Today he booked his ticket into the semis of the French Open after dispatching Alexander Zverev in four sets.
At this stage in his career Novak really doesn't care about tournaments that aren't slams. You'll still see him in Masters 1000s, but he's using them more as practice to get in match shape for the upcoming slam. He's locked into a different mode when it comes to the major events. While Novak doesn't enter these things as the favorite anymore, he sure as hell is still a problem when his fitness cooperates. Despite Zverev being a top 5 player in the sport, he really stood no chance on the court today once Novak figured him out. Once Djoker got that first break in the 2nd set it was curtains. Then came the wave of drop shots and bringing Zverev to the net. He had no answer for the Serbian's tactics. Part of that is Novak still being able to find that greatness and part of it is Zverev being incapable of winning a big match during a slam to save his life. You really gotta look hard to find a bigger mental midget than this dude. Death. Taxes. Zverev shrinking in slams.
Doesn't help that today he was facing a guy like Novak.
This maniac still winning 41 point rallies, hours into a match at 38 years old is psychotic. And yes, Zverev had multiple chances to win that rally above, but didn't have it in him. He's basically just a waste of everyone's time at this point.
Now on Friday we get Djokovic vs. Sinner in the semifinals.
Sinner opens as a -400 favorite. I think that screams the Italian is going to roll here in a maximum of four sets and very possibly straights. Just look at what he's doing to players. Admittedly not the steepest of competition, but nevertheless still respectable clay court players.
Jannik Sinner is collecting scalps in ways that legitimately demoralizes players.
Seems like every match we're getting celebratory reactions from opponents after winning a single game.
While I think Novak will put up more of a fight than these guys, I'm still really skeptical about whether he can make this a match. Jannik is just that good. On the flip side Carlos Alcaraz will get Lorenzo Musetti. I like Musetti's game a lot and his use of the one-handed backhand is aesthetically pleasing, but a stunning result would have to take place to prevent our first ever Alcaraz-Sinner slam final. Everyone just do your job and we'll have a fucking blast Sunday morning.
