More Good Times: USA Soccer Is Embarrassing Itself Again, Limping Ass Backwards Into The World Cup Because We Have Zero Toughness
Typically I wouldn't give a whole lot of though to the Gold Cup. I'd watch it, expect to beat Mexico and Canada, get pissed if we lose. It's basically how I operate within CONCACAF because that's all we ever get to watch with the US. We don't get to play top teams in the world, we rarely go to Europe or anything like that. However, this is the last competition before the World Cup.
It's the last competition before the World Cup and we don't have Pulisic, Weah, Musah, Reyna and McKennie. Part of it is the pointless Club World Cup and teams not letting guys play, some of it is sitting out after a season like Pulisic. It's all fucking stupid. It's the last competition to the World Cup and we're limping ass backwards into it. Think about what this team has done lately. Crashed out in Copa America, no World Cup Qualifying, lost in Nations League

Of course Pulisic being healthy next year matters more than the Gold Cup. But, give me a break about taking time off. He's the face of US Soccer. I love him, think he's awesome, he always has shown up for the US when needed. This should be non-negotiable. You know Pulisic is going to be the face of next year's World Cup with us hosting it. You need to figure out spots around him. If we had good results into this, sure, whatever. But the fact is we've failed on every level since getting out of the World Cup group stage 3 years ago. Hell, if we had World Cup Qualifying and our guys went through that successfully, I wouldn't really care. But with a new manager, new staff and the World Cup, you need to take advantage of any competition.
This is where I miss some of the old guys. A guy like Clint Dempsey or Brian McBride. Guys who lived and died with the US badge. Guys who succeeded despite having arguably less talent than the group we have now. The jump hasn't been made. Expectations got higher and success didn't. That's just a fact.
You don't even have to play Pulisic the entire Gold Cup, but he's the captain. Put him on the roster, play him here and there, keep some sort of chemistry. Again, we're already dealing with this pointless Club World Cup keeping players away, we need as much help as possible from guys who will be playing next summer in the World Cup. Might just be Diego Luna's team now
